Anything creative to me is about tricking yourself to allow your unconscious mind to surface and capturing it. And then figuring out ways to shape that into something that other people can consume and understand. I’ve heard people say that songwriting is like channeling something and I don’t really believe that. It’s you. It’s somewhere inside you. You’ve got so much going on beneath your consciousness all the time that I think that people that are creative have an ability to get to it somehow and not fear that they might not come back.
