2009 was supposed to be different. After coming out of 2008 anything was bound to be better. What follows is a recounting of the events of the year.
January:
Started my wonderful friendship with Megan Flanders.
company claims I owe over $300 in back medical and takes upon themselves to illegally deduct it from my end of month check. So, being more than half short on the rent, i took out a money mart payday loan. A process I’d have to follow every two weeks.
March.
Started corresponding with a wonderful girl named Lisa.
April
We started dating and she became my first steady girlfriend in a while.
May
Lisa spotaneously broke up with me.
July
Work tensions start to peak as we’ve been without contract since January.
I stop the payday loans and my bills start to slip behind.
August.
Strike! We walk out August 17th.
September.
The strike continues. Already much longer than we expected at this point.
The girl I love reaches out and makes contact for the first time in a while. Almost a year and a half. This was both positive and negative.
Record a couple of demos which get a great response. This gives me a huge surge of confidence.
I get played on The Zone’s Capital Rock City for the first time.
September 24th. Strike still on - I turn 30 years old. Randy takes me for beers cause nobody else would. Our first meeting.
My little sister gets engaged!
October.
The strike is still on. The rains and the winds come.
Megan sends me a strike care package for my birthday. It never arrives. Customs eated my Oreos. It’s the thought tho. :P
October 23rd. The strike is over. I go back to work hesitantly and defeated but glad to no longer be on strike.
Informed by mom that there will be no christmas this year.
November
Fired on the 4th. A mere 11 days after the pickets came down. Couldn’t say I was surprised but was shocked at the swiftness.
No longer worked for yellow cab! Went and celebrated with beers. Met the lovely Julie Lavoie.
Started the EI process. Caused much frustration by yellow cab incompetence.
November 16th. Played my first live showcase for The Zone’s Capital Rock City podcast. It was a smashing success!
Spend the rest of the month in a crippling near suicidal depression and eating about one can of rice, or one can of campbells soup a day.
Meet with a financial advisor who reccommends bankruptcy.
December.
I get two boxes of Booberry Cereal from Megan. Noms!
Stil depressed. Spend more and more time not sleeping. Just lying in bed for 10-15 hour stretches. Sometimes not going out for days.
December 10th. My sister moves away to a new city with her new fiancé.
We’ll see what these last few weeks of 2009 bring me. There could be something huge to turn it all around. Fingers crossed people.
